A dinner plate sponged in blue over a cream glaze, the mottling heavier at the rim and thinning towards the middle, so no two plates come out the same.
Spongeware has been on Irish dressers for generations and it still does the job — it mixes with plain white and with anything blue. Good enough to leave on show.
